Comments: Easy potholder made with two granny squares joined with a border. You can variant it using other granny patterns for the front part.

Size : 17x17 cm (6.7 x 6.7 inches)

Material : Worsted Weight Cotton Yarn ( we call it "Poor Cotton", but a yarn like "Sugar&Cream should be good), color A(front), B (back), C (border), Hook no.4.5 (US=G/6); you may want to give a look to my virtual store if you need materials.

Stitches : ch, sc, dc

Difficulty: easy

The Potholder is composed of two parts, that are joined together with the border row

Front

Start with A, 7 ch, join with sl st in first ch

1. 24 dc in lp, join with sl st to first st.

2. [(dc, 3 ch, dc) in next dc, 2 ch, sk 2 dc, dc in next dc, 2 ch, sk 2 dc]* . Repeat * to * 4 times, join with sl st to first st.

4.[corner in next corner sp,( (dc on next dc)3 times, 2 ch) twice, (dc on next dc) 3 times]* . Repeat * to * 4 times, join with sl st to first st.

5..[corner in next corner sp, (dc on next dc)3 times, (2 ch, 3 dc on next sp) 2 times, 2 ch, (dc on next dc) 3 times]* . Repeat * to * 4 times, join with sl st to first st. Cut thread.

Back

With B, 7 ch, join with sl st in first ch.

1. 24 dc in lp, join with sl st in first sc

2. [(2 dc, 2 ch, 2 dc) = corner in next dc, (dc in next dc) 5 times]* . Repeat * to * 4 times, join with sl st to first st.

3. [corner in next corner sp , (dc in next dc) 9 times]*. Repeat * to * 4 times, join with sl st to first st.

4. [corner in next corner sp , (dc in next dc) 13 times]*. Repeat * to * 4 times, join with sl st to first st.

5. [corner in next corner sp , (dc in next dc) 17 times]*. Repeat * to * 4 times, join with sl st to first st. Cut thread.

Border

Join front and back pieces together, with back sides adjacently, following the center loops as a indication; fix them with a couple of pins. Work with C, having as a right side (that in front of your eyes) the front piece and inserting hook in both sides.

Work a sc border all around , doing a sc in every stitches on the back and a sc in every dc e in every sp on the front, and crocheting 3 sc in ea corner sp. On the last sc, join with sl st, crochet 6 chs for the button hole, turn and join with sl st in same st. Cut thread, weave in ends.

N.B.

• Always substitute (also if not explicitly said) first st in a row as follows:
  • first sc with 1 ch, sc;
  • first hdc with 2 ch;
  • first dc with 3 ch;
  • first tr with 4 ch...and so on;
• When you read "sl st to <location>", where the location is not immediately contiguous to last st, this means of course "an appropriate number of sl sts for reaching <location>".
• Also if I do not specify it, if you lasted prev row on a st (say st1), while you must start next row in another st (say st2), make an appropriate number of sl sts to reach st2.
