A FLOWER
Hotpad
Comments: This is a very easy but very nice looking potholder/Hot pad. If you crochet the flower in red and the back in white or green you will have a nice Christmas gift! Tip: if you use a thinner or thicker yarn than what I used, adjust the increments on the back side to let it remain flat.
Size : 9 inches ( 23 centimeters) diameters
Material : Worsted Weight Cotton Yarn ( we call it "Poor Cotton", but a yarn like "Sugar&Cream should be good), color orange and black, Hook no.4 (US=G/6); you may want to give a look to my virtual store if you need materials.
Stitches : ch, sc, dc, dc dec =dc decrement = dc not closed in first st, dc closed with prev in second st
Difficulty: easy
Directions
The Hot Pad is composed of two parts, that are joined together with the border row
Front
Start with orange, 6 ch, join with sl st in first ch
1. *dc in lp, 2 ch*; Repeat * to * 8 times, join with sl st to first st.
2. sl st in next sp, *3 dc in next sp, 2 ch*; Repeat * to * 8 times, join with sl st to first st.
3. *2 dc on next dc, dc on next dc, 2 dc on next dc, 2 ch*; Repeat * to * 8 times, join with sl st to first st.
4.*2 dc on next dc, (dc on next dc)3 times, 2 dc on next dc, 2 ch*; Repeat * to * 8 times, join with sl st to first st.
5.*2 dc on next dc, (dc on next dc) 5 times, 2 dc on next dc, 2 ch*; Repeat * to * 8 times, join with sl st to first st.

7.*dc dec on next 2 dc, (dc on next dc) 3 times, dc dec on next 2 dc, 3 ch, (sc in next sp, 3 ch) 2 times*; Repeat * to * 8 times, join with sl st to first st.
8.*dc dec on next 2 dc, dc on next dc, dc dec on next 2 dc, 3 ch, (sc in next sp, 3 ch)3 times*; Repeat * to * 8 times, join with sl st to first st. Cut Thread
Back
With Black, 5 ch, join with sl st in first ch.
1. 1 ch, 16 sc in lp, join with sl st in first sc
2. *2 dc on ea dc*; Repeat * to * all around, join with sl st to first st.
3. *dc on ea dc*; Repeat * to * all around, join with sl st to first st.
4. *2 dc in next dc, (dc in next dc) 3 times*; Repeat * to * all around, join with sl st to first st.
5. *(dc in next dc) 2 times, 2 dc in next dc, dc in next dc*; Repeat * to * all around, join with sl st to first st.

Joining Edge
Join front and back pieces together, with back sides adjacents, following the center loops as a indication; fix them with a couple of pins. Work with black yarn, having as a right side (that in front of your eyes) the orange one, and inserting hook in both sides.
Join thread in 2nd one of a three-dc grp that are at the tip of petals, * (sc, ch, dc, ch, sc) on 2nd dc of the next grp, [(sc, ch, dc, ch, sc) in next sp] 4 times* ; Repeat * to * all around, end with 10 ch (for the hole), sl st in first sc, turn 1 ch, sc in ea ch, sl st in last sc made on the border.Cut thread, weave in ends
