Size : 21 cm (8.3 inches) diameter.

Material : Worsted Weight Cotton Yarn ( we call it "Poor Cotton", but a yarn like "Sugar&Cream should be good), color gold, Hook no.4 (US=G/6); you may want to give a look to my virtual store if you need materials.

The Potholder is composed of two parts, that are joined together with the border row

Front

Start with 8 ch, join with sl st in first ch

1. 16 dc in lp, join with sl st to first st.

2. [sc in next dc, 2 sc in next dc]*. Repeat * to * 8 times, join with sl st to first st.

3. [(sc in next sc) twice, 2 sc in next sc]*. Repeat * to * 8 times, join with sl st to first st. =>32 sc

4. [sc in next sc, 4 ch, sk a sc]*. Repeat * to * 16 times, join with sl st to first st.

5. [9 tr in next 4-ch sp, 4 ch, sk next sp]*. Repeat * to * 8 times, join with sl st to first st.

6. [sc in 5th tr of next 9-tr grp, 2 ch, 5 tr in next lp, inserting hook under correspond sp of 4th row and taking both in the stitch, 2 ch]*. Repeat * to * 8 times, join with sl st to first st.

7. [7 dc in next sc, 3 ch, (sc between next two trs, 3 ch) 4 times]*. Repeat * to * 8 times, join with sl st to first st.

8. [(sc in next dc) 7 times, 3 ch, sk two lps, sc in next lp, 3 ch]*. Repeat * to * 8 times, join with sl st to first st.

9. [(hdc in next sc, 2 ch, sk a sc) 4 times (2 ch, sc in next sp) 2 times, 2 ch]*. Repeat * to * 8 times, join with sl st to first st. Cut thread

Back

6 ch, join with sl st in first ch.

1. 12 sc in lp, join with sl st in first sc

2. *2 sc in ea sc*; Repeat * to * all around, join with sl st to first st.

3-17. crochet sc rounds, making increments evenly to obtain a flat circle, approx of the same size of front (if it is necessary, crochet a row more or a row less).

18. In this row you join the front to back: put back sides of two pieces adjacently, sc in ea sc, joining EVENLY front to back. The two pieces crocheted together should appear as a unique piece, without "bumps" and ruffles Join with a sl st to first st .Do not cut thread., crochet the border.

Border

*(hdc in next sc, 2 ch, sk a sc) *; Repeat * to * all around, join with sl st to first st. Do not cut thread, crochet the hole

Hole : 12 ch , sk sc, join in next sc with a sl st, turn, sc in ea ch, join with a sl st in last sc of border. Cut thread, weave in ends.

N.B.

• Always substitute (also if not explicitly said) first st in a row as follows:
  • first sc with 1 ch, sc;
  • first hdc with 2 ch;
  • first dc with 3 ch;
  • first tr with 4 ch...and so on;
• When you read "sl st to <location>", where the location is not immediately contiguous to last st, this means of course "an appropriate number of sl sts for reaching <location>".
• Also if I do not specify it, if you lasted prev row on a st (say st1), while you must start next row in another st (say st2), make an appropriate number of sl sts to reach st2.
