This simple coaster resemble a wheel, hence the name (ruota = wheel in Italian); very easy, with only one particular feature, the "little squares" in the central part.

Size : 15 cm (5.5 inches) diameter

Material : Lustersheen or equivalent cotton yarn, hook no. 3 (U.S. C/D)

Stitches : ch, sl st, sc, dc, picot (= 4 ch, sc on first ch).

Start with 10 ch, join ;

1. in lp work 15 dc ; join with sl st in first dc.

2. * dc,2 ch * ; Repeat from * to * 14 times more; join with sl st in first st.

3. * sc on dc,3 ch * ; Repeat from * to * 14 times more; join with sl st in first st.

4. sl st in first 3-ch sp, in each space work (sc, 3 ch, 3 dc); join with sl st in first st.

5 .sl st in first 3-ch sp, * sc on 3 rd ch of the sp,4 ch * ; Repeat from * to * 14 times more; join with sl st in first st.

6. (4 dc in next 4-ch sp)3 times, (5 dc in next 4-ch sp) 12 times; join with sl st in first st.

7. *dc on next dc, 2 ch, sk 1 dc*; Repeat from * to * 35 times more; join with sl st in first st.

8. sc on next dc, 3 ch, dc on next dc, picot, 3 ch*; Repeat from * to * 17 times more; join with sl st in first st.

cut thread, weave in ends.

N.B.

• Always substitute (also if not explicitly said) first st in a row as follows:
  • first sc with 1 ch, sc;
  • first hdc with 2 ch;
  • first dc with 3 ch;
  • first tr with 4 ch...and so on
• When you read "sl st to <location>", where the location is not immediately contiguous to last st, this means of course "an appropriate number of sl sts for reaching <location>".
• Also if I do not specify it, if you lasted prev row on a st (say st1), while you must start next row in another st (say st2), make an appropriate number of sl sts to reach st2.
