This small doily can be coaster-sized if crocheted with a thinner thread

Size : 20 cm (8 inches) diameter

Material : Pearl cotton # 5, hook 1.6 mm (Boye steel#7) ; you can substitute with Cebelia #10 or equivalent cordonnet thread (but the gauge can slightly vary)

Stitches : ch, sl st, sc, hdc, dc, tr, picot (4 ch,sc in first ch) ; dc dec (2 dc closed together in next 2 sts)

Start with 12 ch; join with sl st.

1. 24 tr in lp; join with sl st in first st.

2. (sc, 5 ch, sk 3 sts) 6 times; join with sl st in first st.

3. * sc on sc, (sc, hdc, 3 dc, hdc, sc) in 5-ch sp *Repeat * to * 5 times more; join with sl st in first st.

4. * dc on sc, 5 ch, sk 4 sts, (2 dc) in 2nd dc, 5 ch*; Repeat from * to * 5 times more; join with sl st in first st.

5. * dc on dc, 5 ch, (2 dc) in next dc, (3 dc) in next dc, 5 ch *; Repeat from * to * 5 times more; join with sl st in first st.

6. * dc on dc, 5 ch, [(2 dc) in next dc, (dc) in next dc] twice, (2 dc) in next dc, 5 ch *; Repeat from * to * 5 times more; join with sl st in first st.

7 .* dc on dc, 5 ch, [(2 dc) in next dc, dc in next dc, dc in next dc] twice, dc in next dc, (2 dc) in next dc, 5ch *; Repeat from * to * 5 times more; join with sl st in first st. .

8. * dc on dc, 5 ch, (2 dc) in next dc, (dc in next dc) 10 times, (2 dc) in next dc, 5 ch *; Repeat from * to * 5 times more; join with sl st in first st. .

13. * dc on dc, (dc, 2 ch, dc) in 2-ch sp, dc on dc,14 ch, 3 dc closed tog on next 3 dc, 14 ch *; Repeat from * to* 5 times more; join with sl st in first st.

14. * (tr on dc) twice, (tr, picot, tr) in 2-ch sp,(tr on dc) twice, 14 ch, (tr, 3 ch, picot, 3 ch, tr) on dc cluster,14 ch *; Repeat from * to * 5 times more; join with sl st in first st, cut thread.

N.B.

• Always substitute (also if not explicitly said) first st in a row as follows:
  • first sc with 1 ch, sc;
  • first hdc with 2 ch;
  • first dc with 3 ch;
  • first tr with 4 ch...and so on;
• When you read "sl st to <location>", where the location is not immediately contiguous to last st, this means of course "an appropriate number of sl sts for reaching <location>".
• Also if I do not specify it, if you lasted prev row on a st (say st1), while you must start next row in another st (say st2), make an appropriate number of sl sts to reach st2.
