PINEAPPLE SQUARE

This small Square is very nice and delicate if you crochet it with a very thin thread, and in this case it is suitable for a doily (sewing motifs in a rectangular shape, e.g 8*10), or a summer vest. If you crochet it with a thicker thread it can be used as coaster, because it is flat enough.
Size : 10 cm (4 inches) diameter
Material : Pearl cotton # 16, hook 0.75 mm (US steel #10), lilac; you can substitute with Cebelia #40 or equivalent cordonnet thread (but the gauge can slightly vary)
Stitches : ch, sl st, sc, dc, tr, tr cluster (4 tr closed together).
Difficulty : difficult with finest thread, medium with a thicker thread.
Directions
Start with 15 ch, join ;
- *tr cluster in lp, 3 ch*; Repeat from * to * 7 times more; join with sl st in first st. =>8 clusters.
- sl st in first 5-ch sp, 4 tr in sp, 5 tr in next sp, *4 tr in next sp, 5 tr in next sp*; Repeat from * to * 2 times more; join with sl st in first st. =>36 tr
- * 2 tr in next tr, tr in next tr, 3 ch, tr in next tr, 2 tr in next tr, 5 ch, (sc on next tr)5 times, 5 ch*; Repeat from * to * 3 times more; join with sl st in first st.
- * (tr in next tr) 3 times, 6 ch, sc in 3-ch lp, (tr in next tr) 3 times,5 ch, (sc on next tr)5 times, 5 ch*; Repeat from * to * 3 times more; join with sl st in first st.
- * (tr in next tr) 3 times, 6 ch, (sc in next sp, 6 ch)twice, (tr in next tr) 3 times, 5 ch, (sc on next tr)5 times, 5 ch*; Repeat from * to * 3 times more; join with sl st in first st;
- * (tr in next tr) 3 times, 6 ch, sc in next sp, 6 ch, 4 tr in next sp, 6 ch, sc in next sp, 6 ch (tr in next tr) 3 times, 5 ch, (sc on next tr)5 times, 5 ch*; Repeat from * to * 3 times more; join with sl st in first st;
- * (tr in next tr) 3 times, 6 ch, sc in next sp, 6 ch, (4 tr in next sp, 6 ch)twice, sc in next sp, 6 ch,(tr in next tr) 3 times, 5 ch, sk a sc ,(sc on next tr)3 times, 5 ch, sk a sc*; Repeat from * to * 3 times more; join with sl st in first st;
- * (tr in next tr) 3 times, (6 ch, sc in next sp)twice, 6 ch, (tr cluster, 4 ch)3 times in next sp,tr cluster in same sp, , (6 ch , sc in next sp) twice, 6 ch,(tr in next tr) 3 times, sk 3 sc*; Repeat from * to * 3 times more; join with sl st in first st;
- sl st to first 6-ch sp, ( sc in next sp,6 ch) 9 times, *tr cluster pointing between the two groups of tr, , (6 ch , sc in next sp) 9 times, 6 ch*.Repeat around, finish with tr cluster pointing between the two groups of tr, 6 ch, join with sl st in first sc; cut thread.
N.B.
- Always substitute (also if not explicitly said) first st in a row as follows:
- first sc with 1 ch, sc;
- first hdc with 2 ch;
- first dc with 3 ch;
- first tr with 4 ch...and so on;
- When you read "sl st to <location>", where the location is not immediately contiguous to last st, this means of course "an appropriate number of sl sts for reaching <location>".
- Also if I do not specify it, if you lasted prev row on a st (say st1), while you must start next row in another st (say st2), make an appropriate number of sl sts to reach st2.
