Doily
A big, very open doily. It is no difficult... only a little attention to all that spikes.
Size : 42 cm (16.5 inches) diameter
Material: Pearl cotton # 5, hook 1.7 mm (US steel #); you can substitute with Cebelia #10 or equivalent ecosse or cordonnet thread (but the gauge can slightly vary)
Stitches : ch, sc, dc, tr, cl (cluster = 4 dc closed tog in same sp), trgrp (3 tr closed tog on 3 consecutive stitches), dlp (double loop=12 ch, sl st in 9th ch from hook, 3 ch)
Difficulty: medium.
Directions
Start with 10 ch, join with sl st
1. 4 ch, 17 tr in lp, join with sl st to first st. => 18 tr
2. * cl in next tr, 1 ch, tr on next tr, 1 ch *; Repeat * to * 8 times more, join with sl st to first st.
3. * sc in cl, 3 ch, sc in tr, 3 ch*; Repeat * to * 8 times more, join with sl st to first st. =>18 lps
4. sl st in sp, * 5 tr in sp, 12 ch, sk a lp*; Repeat * to * 8 times more, join with sl st to first st.
5. sl st in 5th ch of sp, *3 tr in lp (working in 5th, 6th and 7th ch of lp), 18 ch*; Repeat * to * 8 times more, join with sl st to first st. => 9 lps
6. *trgrp on next 3 tr, 1 ch, 18 tr in next lp, 1 ch*; Repeat * to * 8 times more, join with sl st to first st.
7. sl st in first tr, *(sc on next tr) 7 times, dlp, sk 2 tr ,(sc on next tr) 7 times, dlp, sk (1 ch, lc, 1 ch)*; Repeat * to * 8 times more, join with sl st to first st.
8. sl st on 5th sc, *4 ch, (8 dc, 5 ch, 8 dc) in dlp, 4 ch, sc in 3rd sc of next grp, 4 ch, , (8 dc, 5 ch, 8 dc) in dlp, 4 ch, sc in 3rd sc of next grp*; Repeat * to * all around, join with sl st to first st. Cut thread.
9. Join thread in 5-ch sp of arrow, *20 ch, sc in next 3-ch sp*; Repeat * to * all around, join with sl st to first st.
10. * (sc in next ch) 20 times, (sc, 3 ch, sc) in next sc*; Repeat * to * all around, join with sl st to first st.
11. sl st in second sc, *(sc on next sc) 7 times, dlp, sk 2 sc ,(sc on next sc) 7 times, sk 2 sc, (2 dc, 3 ch, 2 dc) in 3-ch sp*; Repeat * to * all around, join with sl st to first st
12. *10 ch, (8 dc, picot, 8 dc) in dlp, 10 ch, (sc on next dc) twice, (sc, picot, sc) in 3-ch lp, (sc on next dc) twice*; Repeat * to * all around, join with sl st to first st. Cut thread
